Donald G. Schanke is the always hungry and wise cracking sidekick/partner of Nick Knight in the Toronto Homicide Dept. He has been partners with Nick from their early times in the 23rd precinct under Capt. Stonetree, to the time they moved to 96th precinct under Capt. Cohen. Though constantly cracking jokes or making light of things he is both a good cop and loyal partner. Over time he and Nick became much more than just partners on the job they became close friends as well.

Schanke is a married man and constantly talks about his wife Myra whom he truly loves though he is off on the romance part most of the time he does try. He has one 12 year old daughter named Jenny. Schanke like the other mortals is not privy to Nick's secret of being a vampire though he has had his suspecions from time to time.

He loves Souvlaki and other garlic riddled dishes much to his partners dismay. He also has been known to blast Polka music while driving. But all in all he is a big old softy with a heart of gold. His presence was sorely lost when he was killed in an airplane accident at the beginning of season 3. FK was never the same without it's loveable sidekick we all loved you Schank.
